What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are tags added to a URL that help analytics tools identify where website traffic came from and which campaign generated it.

Example?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign=summer_sale

Recommended UTM structure

Consistency matters more than any single naming convention. Using predictable lowercase values makes reporting easier and prevents values such as “Facebook”, “facebook” and “FACEBOOK” from appearing as separate traffic sources.

utm_sourcegoogle, facebook, linkedin
utm_mediumcpc, paid_social, email
utm_campaignsummer_sale, brand_search
utm_contentvideo_01, carousel_02
utm_termkeyword or audience detail

Custom tracking parameters

Some advertising setups require additional values beyond standard UTMs. Advanced Parameters lets you append custom fields such as campaign IDs, ad IDs, creative IDs or placements while preserving existing parameters already present in the destination URL.
